The number of human trafficking victims rescued in SouthEast Asia hit a record high in 2019. But what happens to these survivors after they're rescued? Reintegration is key for survival. My nonprofit Hair2Help has partnered with Together1heart, an organization supporting survivors of human trafficking, to provide ongoing support as each victim takes steps to rebuild her life and gain self-confidence. This support includes counseling, medical care, education, computer skills, ESL, and vocational training.
The Vimean Beauty + Salon in Siem Reap, Cambodia is a Together1heart affiliate where survivors can learn the beauty industry—actionable skills that pull them out of being at risk. “Every human rights violation begins with a lack of education,” explains AnnaLynne McCord, American Actress, activist, model and President of Together1heart. “Every action, whether small or great, is a step towards ending this atrocious sin on humanity." When I learned of this salon I knew that my talents and network could be of immeasurable help.
When I visited Cambodia on my Honeymoon I learned that nearly a quarter of Cambodia’s population were executed, I was ignorant to the extent of this genocide and it’s lasting effects on it’s people.
So after two years of private fundraising, it is with great pleasure that I announce the launch of Cambodia Hair2Help.
Stylists from New York's Hair2Help will be traveling to Cambodia and Vimean Beauty do an intensive 5-day training seminar to educate, elevate, and teach these survivors. Training will include color theory, highlighting, gray coverage, gorgeous blow outs, cutting foundation, and men’s barbering. In addition, I will be working on marketing, community outreach, and salon operations to ensure the salon is profitable, thriving, and able to continue the Cambodia Hair2Help mission. This exciting next chapter is the beginning of an ongoing partnership and mentor program that will heal as it educates. This is a path out of terror—one that promises a future.
Up until this point, the mission has been funded by the James Corbett Studio community of private donors. Your support is crucial to the restoration of these young lives and this partnership.
Please donate if you can. With love and gratitude.
